Microneedling

Hi friends, as you know, we love talking about skincare, anti-aging solutions, and what we can do that doesn’t involve bank-breaking costs, tons of recovery time, or invasive procedures. That being said, let’s talk microneedling...needles on the face? Yep, and you’re going to love it! 

Microneedling involves a special device/pen that uses tiny micro-sized needles to make microscopic holes in your skin. That probably sounds a little scary; holes in my face? Um, no thanks! But don’t worry, it’s not bad for you; in fact, it’s quite the opposite. The concept behind microneedling, and why it is so effective, is that it tricks your body into thinking your face is lightly injured; in other words, it creates an inflammatory response. 

The inflammatory response after microneedling treatments causes the body to go into “healing mode,” causing the dermis and epidermis to work overtime to heal and repair the “damage.” This healing response increases collagen and elastin production. Collagen and Elastin are found throughout the body, but these two proteins are especially beneficial for our skin; they help keep the skin firm, smooth, plump, and tight. The result post-healing is a brighter texture, more plump skin, a more even complexion, a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, and, over time, decreased acne scarring.

What Happens During Microneedling Treatment?

During our microneedling aesthetic facial, we start by cleansing and prepping the skin, and then we numb you with a topical numbing cream before the application of treatment so there is no discomfort. We work the needles around your face while applying a serum that is being “pushed” into the skin; the serum has an even better absorption rate because of the microscopic openings created by the microneedling pathways. 

The serums we have are tailored to you and what your individual goals are. We offer a standard hyaluronic acid (think extremely hydrating) and our SERA brand serums. SERA brand is the company that carries the amazing BioRePeel, and their serums are fantastic! The SERA serums are a great idea for more aggressive anti-aging results; they are packed with antioxidants, amino acids, and other effective antiaging ingredients, creating the perfect skin cocktail – we offer firming, radiance, and hydrating serums from SERA.

Post-Microneedling Treatment

You’ll leave your facial with some redness and splotchiness, but we apply a repairing/healing serum and moisturizer that helps continue to promote the healing and regeneration process. Over the next 24 hours, your skin will feel tight, slightly rough in texture, and likely have some lingering redness. Some people will be a little rosy for a few days post-treatment, but most experience a pleasant glow and extra plump/full-looking skin. The focus, post-facial, is to keep your skin hydrated and clean and avoid picking. That can be difficult because you will likely have some purging – but please don’t pick!

Makeup, sun exposure, heat, and aggressive workouts are big no-nos after microneedling, as we do not want to irritate the skin; it's delicate and needs to recharge. Our advice? Post microneedling or any aesthetic facial, cuddle up on the couch with your favorite things, make it a chill night in, and make tomorrow a rest day, aka skip the workout.
