A TCA Chemical Peel is a minimally invasive treatment in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layer. It is used to treat acne scars, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, minimize pore size and more! All while preparing what will be the new outermost layer of the skin once done peeling.
Who are TCA Chemical Peels good for?
These peels are suitable for most skin types. However, higher Fitzpatrick skin types should proceed with caution due to an increased risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Dry and sensitive skin types should also proceed with caution.
Do these peel help with with skin disorders such as Melasma?
Because TCA peels cause peeling of the skin they are excellent for those with sun damage or skin disorders such as melasma, to help lighten and even the skin tone.
What do I have to do prior to my TCA Chemical Peel appointment?
Preparing your skin prior to the peel will help the peel be more successful, allowing deeper penetration and faster recovery. During your in-person consultation, you may be asked to stop using certain skin care products such as harsh cleansers and exfoliants. You may also be encouraged to use some AHA’s prior to the peel to pretreat the skin.
What is the recovery time or side effects?
Your skin may become red and take on a frosting appearance during/after the application of the TCA, a slight numbing effect, and darker skin appearance can happen for several days. Around day 3, your outermost layer of skin will begin to peel away potentially lasting up to 14 days. During these days, it is extremely important to not pick or peel skin, to not exfoliate, and have no direct sunlight exposure as this can cause hyperpigmentation and scarring.
